The exhibition entitled \u2018Mellifluous Metaphors\u2019, will be curated by Elizabeth Rogers, a New Delhi\/New York based art historian and curator and will feature the works of some of India\u2019s most sought after contemporary artists.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Wei-Ling Gallery, Lim Wei-Ling, says,<br \/>\n<em>\u2018With the recent euphoria and interest in Contemporary Indian art, we thought it would be an opportune time to introduce some of India\u2019s rising stars to the local market, and a great time for collectors to look at investing in Contemporary Indian Art\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This exhibition is a two-way collaboration between Wei-Ling Gallery and Nitanjali Gallery.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MELLIFLUOUS METAPHORS<\/span><br \/>\nAn Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art<\/p>\n<p><em>Melliflous Metaphors features the work of fourteen contemporary painters of the Indian subcontinent. It honours the first of collaborative artistic endeavours by the Wei-Ling Gallery in Kuala Lumpur and the Nitanjali Art Gallery based in New Delhi. All of the participating artists have been working with Nitanjali over varying lengths of time; and reflect the Gallery\u2019s commitment to evolving the work of individual creators as well as the rapidly burgeoning Indian art scene.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The artists included in the show are as follows: Amiya Bhattacharya, Bhaskar Goswami, Dipankar Dasgupta, Durga Kainthola, Manoj Vyloor, Pratul Dash, S. N. Jha, Samit Das, Satadru Sovan Banduri, Seema Kohli, Shruit Gupta Chandra, Sourav Bhattacharya, Vinay Sharma, and Zakkir Hussain.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> This congregation of painters drawn from diverse geographical regions of the country, manifest their own idiosyncratic personalities on their chosen picture planes. Nonetheless, despite variance of medium, palette, composition and perspective, and imagery, an unusual lyrical harmony unfolds before the viewer as one\u2019s eye moves from the tableau of one to another.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Indian contemporary art, similarly so true of the Twentieth Century modernist and progressive schools in the country, embraces a wide range of subjects and perspectives. Distinct elements of mythological and iconic representation unfold; whereas the treatment contained in a different frame explores surreal allusions, bending forms both abstract and concrete. Of course, the human body and portraiture characterize the passions of other painters, no matter their age or gender. As many of these personages have not exhibited to date in Malaysia, it is important that their individual strengths and personal journeys be appreciated in tandem with the significant factors of Indian art history.
