Hands On will also coincide with the launch of the 6th floor of the Gardens mall on March 31st.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will feature works by four artists, namely; Amir Zainorin, Gan Sze Hooi, Ivan Lam and Mun Kao.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Garden of Love &amp; Batu Api \u2013 Amir Zainorin<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Garden of Love &amp; Batu Api is an interactive project that involves messages of love from the public. Participants were simply asked to express what love means to them. Be it their love stories, spiritual love, familial love, love towards their friends, neighbours, animals, nature, or even their job. The messages were then written on a piece of paper and hung on a tree like structure. The artist hopes that with this project, the message of love will be channeled through visitors and participants. In Batu Api, visitors are encouraged to paint flame patterns on stones. The title derives from a Malay idiom typically used to describe \u201csomeone who likes to incite fights amongst other people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Fragment Unity &amp; 104 Entry Point and Exit \u2013 Gan Sze Hooi<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The visual styles of these artworks are influenced by a chalkboard. Magnets in the shape of humans, are arranged in a way that depicts people gathering around two historical monuments; the Tugu Negara (National Monument) and the Panggung Bandaraya DBKL (DBKL City Theatre). To the artist, the two monuments symbolise unity in Malaysia. The magnets represent the everyday citizen. Visitors are encouraged to shift the people (magnets) around, like how a student would draw on a chalkboard to express themselves. The act of shifting makes the visitor part of the artwork and makes them an everyday citizen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Vending Art \u2013 Ivan Lam<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Art can be accessible, art can be interactive. Which is why, Ivan Lam has decided to incorporate the use of a vending machine for his artwork. Visitors will be able to purchase an artwork just like how they would buy a snack or a drink. The artwork will be a custom made Perspex box, signed by the artist. This is an ongoing project of the artist that started in 2012, it was first shown in Art Basel Hong Kong (2013) and most recently in Art Stage Singapore (2017). The vending machine inherently vends products for consumption. Now it vends art. At the same time by it being in a vending machine it totally bypasses the need for middlemen. Or operators that sell art. Hence, the boundaries of what it is, are being shifted around.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Work\/Life Balance \u2013 Mun Kao<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As an artist, Mun Kao seeks to bring together old traditions and modern techniques. Work\/Life Balance is what the artist calls \u2013 a painstallation \u2013 a combination of a painting and an installation. The \u201cpainstallation\u201d features a bicycle connected to a painting of a galloping horse. The bicycle acts as a kinetic power generator to create sound and movement in the painting. Each time a person pedals the bicycle, the galloping sound of horses can be heard alongside, emulating an invigorating ride with horses.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Hands On will be showing from 18th to 31st March 2017 at Wei-Ling Contemporary.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Wei-Ling Contemporary is located at RT-01 Sixth Floor, The Gardens Mall, 59200, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
